What Are We Doing?

We cover science and social studies in homeroom! 
​Some highlights from our curriculum for this year will be:
SCIENCE 
  • changes in the earth's surface
  • living things and their habitats
  • properties of matter
SOCIAL STUDIES
  • citizenship
  • culture
  • financial literacy
  • geography
Students in my homeroom class will receive a special gift from our class and have Happy Birthday sung to them!  
Scholar Academy policy disallows treats for birthday celebrations.  Instead, we encourage you to come to our classroom and read a book to our class then donate the book to our classroom library OR make a craft with our class to celebrate your child's birthday!  If you are interested in coming in to celebrate your child's birthday with us, please email me your availability at least a week in advance!
PARTY INVITATIONS
Please refrain from giving out birthday invitations to individual students during school hours.  
If you are inviting the whole class, please let me know when you send in invitations so I can be sure they make it home!

WE LOVE BOOKS!
Reading is an incredible way to connect children to different cultures, opinions, and subjects.  It strengthens imagination and invites children to explore and learn.  Academically, children who are consistent readers have greater academic success and stay in school.
For this and many other reasons, I have chosen to be a part of Scholastic Book Clubs!  
I will be sending home Book Club flyers every month.  You are welcome to purchase from the flyers or visit clubs.scholastic.com and view their expanded selection.  Your purchases always help our classroom earn free books and resources!
